Collaborative Practice and LGBTQ+ Families
Collaborative Practice is particularly helpful for LGBTQ+ families – with or without children – going through dissolution because:
- the process can be structured to serve your family’s real needs, giving you control over where to spend your resources and energy;
- the Collaborative Practice process can help you create solutions that work for your family;
- Collaborative Practice is not a “one size fits all” process; it can be tailored to each couple’s expectations and needs rather than relying on an area of the law that is confusing and unsettled with regard to LGBTQ+ issues; and
- in a Collaborative Practice process, you can take into consideration tax and other consequences that are unique to LGBTQ+ families.
